There is a lot of truth in the saying – starting right is a job half done. How you start your day truly sets the tone for the rest of the day. On the contrary, if you have a mad start to your morning – snoozing till late, not having time for breakfast, rushing out the door to catch the morning train to work, the rest of your day just continues to go downhill. A great start to the day can actually make the rest of your day go well.
When you start your day on a good note, you set it up for success. You feel good all day long, stay more organized, on time and you are able to maintain a positive mindset even if anything goes out of hand. What you cultivate in the morning influences how you feel, act, and think during the rest of your day.
Here are 5 simple habits to add to your morning routine to get a great start to the day –
Don’t reach for the phone – 🙋♀️if the first thing you do after opening your eyes is scroll through Instagram! Let go of social media at least for the first few minutes after waking up. Wish good morning to your family or loved ones. Detach from technology for a few minutes to feel present in the moment.
Focus on positivity – Incorporate some type of mindful practice to kickstart your day. Focus your mind on positive thoughts – good things that you enjoy doing in the morning. It could be spending some time close to nature by going out on a small hike or just watering your plants. Do something you find therapeutic.
Workout – Whether it is going to the gym or doing a quick workout at home, starting the day with some form of exercise will energize your body and mind. Packing in a good workout first thing in the morning would make you feel fresh and attentive all day long. To pep yourself up more, listen to some music while working out.
Don’t skip breakfast – You must have heard the saying, “breakfast like a king.” Well, there is truth in that. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. How you feel during the day greatly depends on what you eat in the morning. You don’t want to skip breakfast and spend half your day hangry, do you?
Groom yourself – Take some time to make yourself put together. Not only how you look makes a good impression on others, it also helps you feel better and more confident. So pay attention to your personal hygiene – shower, brush your teeth, comb your hair. Wear washed and well-ironed clothes. Be presentable and confident.
Plan your day – Take 5 minutes in the morning to list down the tasks you need to finish during the day. Prioritizing your day will help you better manage your time. It will also ensure that you don’t miss anything and instead have a proper plan of action to tackle any urgent task that comes your way.
To achieve all this in the morning, it is critical to sleep on time and wake up on time (without snoozing.) A well rested body and mind will go a long way. Getting a good night’s sleep is essential to waking up feeling good and being able to start your day right.
