Keeping yourself accountable can be hard. It is easy to get unmotivated and just give up.  I struggle with it myself! Especially when it comes to working out and working on my blog. I had to teach myself how to keep going with my goals.

I have compiled a list of tips I have used to help keep myself accountable.

Write Down Your Goals

To start everything out, you need to understand what your goals are!!  To figure these out, you need to make a list of what your big goals are.  Write down the list from most intimidating to least intimidating.  Besides those goal’s write down the time frame you want to complete them in. 

Then take the list and break it down into even smaller goals. Breaking it down will make your goals look less intimidating. Another way to help keep yourself motivated is by taking that list and posting it somewhere. Make sure the place is somewhere you will see it all the time. This way when you walk by it you can remember what you are working too.

Reward Yourself

To go along with writing down your goals, you need to reward yourself. As I said above you should write down the reward you want to give yourself beside the goal. These rewards are a great way to motivate yourself to keep going with your goals.

           Some ideas of rewards are:

–      A dinner date with yourself

–      A new workout outfit

–      A new book

–      A yummy snack

–      A new outfit

The list could go on forever. I love to reward myself with new workout clothes. I do recommend that the reward be related to your goals, that way they can help you to keep going. If you are doing workout goals a great reward is a new outfit. If you are working on work goals, reward yourself with a new notebook. There are so many options out there but find what will motivate you.

Have Someone Keep you Accountable

To really help keep yourself on track you need someone to check in with you. Make sure you give this responsibility to someone you know will keep you on track. I have kind of given this responsibility to my boyfriend. He loves it lol.

Just at a random period, he will ask how certain things are going and then kind of help me break down what I have and have not done. If I start complaining he will remind me I told him to do this. That is exactly what I needed, I needed someone to just make sure I was keeping on track and not letting me slack off. Basically, I gave him permission to give me shit when I was not getting things done.

Create an Instagram or a Page Where you can Update It

            If someone keeping you accountable is not enough, then maybe you need somewhere you can check-in.  It could be anything from Google Docs to Instagram that you dedicate to your goals. Just make sure it is a place where you can update it regularly with; photos, dates, recipes, etc. It will all depend on your goal.

            I know some people who have created Instagram’s that are just for fitness. Every time they complete a workout, they post about it.  It’s a great way to look back and see all you have accomplished. A plus to this is it allows other people to keep you accountable as well.

Give Yourself Days Off

      Not every day needs to be perfect. You sometimes need to take a day off to re-group. Listen to your mind and body for that cue to take time off.  I had to learn this the hard way. I constantly beat myself up about not working on the blog or even working out.  It took me some time to realize that just because I took some time off does not mean I failed. 

  When you don’t give yourself the time to recover, you are going to burn yourself out.  If you do not rest, you will be more inclined to make more mistakes. Make sure to mark down those rest days to help keep yourself accountable.


            Self-reflection is a great way to keep yourself accountable. Looking back on where you are and how far you’ve come, can help to motivate you. The best way to self-reflect is to write it all down or record yourself talking about it. When everything is documented somewhere, you can look back and see how far your achievements have come.

            If you are in a funk, self-reflection can help you to see where you are and how far you have to go. I had to take a break and self-reflect on my blog. took a month off to regroup. By self-reflecting on it and realized what I had to do. I reflected on how far the blog has come and where I want it to go. Then took that motivation and ran with it.


  Hope these tips can help to keep yourself accountable. Trust me I know how hard it is to keep yourself accountable. I struggle with it as well. Take the time to learn what you can do to help with accountability.
